acks Ricky Ray and Henry Burris each failed to throw for 150 yards on Labour Day, they both managed surpass the 300-yard mark in the rematch. -- A big difference for the Montreal Alouettes against Hamilton on Sunday: the play of receiver Kerry Watkins, who set season highs for catches in a game (4), average reception (14.5 yards) and touchdowns (1). -- Its gut-check time for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, if not yet time to panic. The Bombers still enjoy first place in the East Division and a share of the leagues best overall record at 7-3. But their pair of stunning losses to Saskatchewan, combined with the loss of middle linebacker Joe Lobendahn, and uncertain health of defensive back Jonathan Hefney and quarterback Buck Pierce has raised all sorts of worries in Swaggerville. Though the Bombers raced out to a 7-1 record through their first eight contests, it wasnt as if they were leaving opponents in the dust. Winnipeg had just two wins by double-digit margins and not a single win by more than two touchdowns. In other words, the margin for error was thin. With Pierce beat-up through 10 consecutive starts, and the defence losing a bit of its swag of late, the Bombers upcoming matches against Montreal (Sept. 18 and 30th, with Toronto in between on the 24th) will go a long way to determining whether the Eastern road to the Grey Cup will go through Winnipeg. -- Calgary running back Joffrey Reynolds had season highs for both carries and total yards Friday night, running the ball 14 times for 80 yards. But big games for the soon-to-be 32-year-old Reynolds appear to be mostly behind him. After racking up eight 100-yard games two seasons ago, he had just three all of last season, and is yet to reach the century mark yet this season. -- Speaking of running backs whose production has dropped of late, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers have to be concerned they arent getting more out of Fred Reid. Last seasons rushing champion hasnt had a 100-yard game this season and has racked up a total of just 160 yards during the Bombers last four contests, with an average of just 2.8 yardss per carry.dddddddddddd It might take some of the heat off of quarterback Buck Pierce if Winnipegs opponents were a little more afraid of its running game. -- The Toronto Argonauts problems at quarterback have been well-documented. But almost as troubling has been their inability to develop a top-notch receiver. Heading into Week 12, the Argos top receiver is 34-year-old Jeremaine Copeland, who is still looking for his first touchdown this season, after having three a year ago and a dozen in his final season with Calgary in 2009. Copelands 439 yards put him 18th in league receiving, seven yards more than Andre Durie who is listed as a running back but lines up much of the time as a receiver. Since the 2005 season, only two Argonauts have wound up among the leagues top-10 in receiving yards by the end of a season - Arland Bruce and Chad Lucas. And in a year in which all kinds of rookie receivers have had impressive CFL debuts, its worth asking why the Argonauts havent been able to produce a single one who is as good as the three playing for Hamilton – Chris Williams, Bakari Grant and Aaron Kelly. -- Saskatchewan safety Craig Butler is having an outstanding rookie season, highlighted by his performance against the Blue Bombers on Sunday. The Western product had two interceptions and made what may have been the game-changing play when he came off the edge on a blitz and got a clean shot under the chin of Winnipeg quarterback Buck Pierce. -- Pierces helmet flying off after he was hit by Craig Butler was just the latest example of a phenomenon that has been going on throughout the CFL season. Perhaps the league needs a rule stating that any player whose helmet comes off from contact must sit out a play or two. -- The B.C. Lions are 4-14 during the first six weeks of the past three seasons, and 16-12 from Week 7 onward. -- Stat line from Week 11 that jumps out: Avon Cobourne, 5 carries for 2 yards. -- Unlike most teams that begin a football season 0-5, the B.C. Lions never wavered in their belief in quarterback Travis Lulay. And for good reason when you look at the season so far as a whole. In 10 starts this season, Lulay has failed to throw for at least 200 yards just once, has had four 300-yard passing games and is yet to have a game in which hes thrown more interceptions than touchdowns. -- There are three CFL kickers this season who are hitting at better than 85 per cent. The difference. Hamiltons Jason Medlock is hitting from a significantly longer average distance (39 yards), compared to Montreals Sean Whyte (28.8) and B.C.s Paul McCallum (31.6.) -- The Toronto Argonauts have not scored an offensive touchdown since Cory Boyd rushed for a pair on Aug. 18th against Saskatchewan. -- There is much debate around the CFL about the merits of the leagues decision to eliminate the option-year NFL window when it signed the latest collective agreement with its players before the start of the 2010 season. In previous seasons, players signing CFL contracts were able to test the NFL during the off-season heading into their option years. It was a system that allowed players an early exit to the NFL but also meant that a player released by an NFL team would have to return to his former CFL club under the terms of his contract. Which is why Saskatchewans Andy Fantuz and Edmontons Mark Restelli both returned to their respective teams this week after being released by the Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins. But the elimination of the option year window may have some unintended side effects. For one, former CFL players released by NFL teams in the future will be unrestricted free agents, meaning that a player such as Fantuz would benefit from a mid-season bidding war. Imagine what Fantuz could have collected recently had he been able to make his services available to all eight CFL teams. The end of the NFL window also makes a player hesitant to sign contract extensions, since doing so delays the next opportunity to take another shot at the NFL. The Roughriders would love to have Fantuz extend his contract with them before the end of this season. But doing so would push back his next chance at trying the NFL until after the 2013 season at the earliest. The elimination of the option-year window forces players to play-out their contracts without signing extensions if they want to try the NFL, which also makes them CFL free agents. And then there is the view that forcing American players to commit to two full seasons has made recruiting south of the border much more difficult. Most players who come to Canada never got to use the window to go back. But the perception that its there for them was a strong selling point that the league no longer has to offer. And there are those in the league that believe whatever drain of talent there was by having the window is far exceeded by the number of players who wont consider the CFL because its no longer there. wholesale jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys ' ' '
