Mu attributed the sales decline to weak external demand, especially demand in developed countries.
The decline in the second phase of the fair, which lasted from Apr. 24 to Apr. 28, was less than the 20.8% plunge recorded in the session's first phase, which lasted from Apr. 15 to Apr. 19.
Sales in the first two phases of the 105th session totaled US$20.1 billion, down 18.8% compared with the corresponding phases of the 104th session.
In the second phase, sales of the nation's leading export-oriented provinces, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shanghai and Shandong, fell 18%, 20.2%, 33.8% and 53.6%, respectively, while the contract value of central and western provinces like Liaoning, Shaanxi and Hunan soared 41.3%, 69.7% and 110%, respectively.
The third phase of the 105th session, to be held from May 3 to May 7, will display textiles and garments, footwear, medical equipment, foods, office supplies, leisure goods, bags and luggage.
