He broke his silence on Thursday afternoon after being cleared by police of the damaging allegations and says the matter is now " over".


Victoria Police decided earlier on Thursday not to lay criminal charges after advice from prosecutors that there was no reasonable prospect of conviction.


On Thursday morning, 'The Australian' newspaper reported that a senior Labor figure was alleged to have raped a teenager in 1986 at an overnight camp organized by the Vanguard movement of the Victorian Young Labor Party.
